Artist's Comments

A *smau* in the part of the town near the port called Bryggen (old wharf). There used to be the sea between those houses !
Built when the town was part of the Hanseatic League's trading empire from the 14th to the mid-16th century, those old wooden buildings are now used as ateliers & studios for artists (what remains of them, since they were ravaged by fire several times).
They were placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1980.
The athmosphere in there is so timeless, I adore the special smell.

Who can deny the beauty of Bryggen..
I love this part of Bergen and hope to see it again some time.. I think this photo really captures the essence of what intrigued me about this area.
